The Forth and final blog for Red Bull Canimation Challenge

Hi again, final post for this project, and the final animation as-well. So here's the conclusion of the animation and the results afterwards.

Day 17: 9/10/11

Today I have finished off the Formula 1 Red Bull race scene, which is all completed, with a few tweaks for the F1 Red Bull race scene.

Day 18: 10/11/11

Today I finished the scene were Mark meets Sebastian (see Day 14:6/11/11). Now which includes both bodies into the animation, which is now completed.

Day 19: 11/11/11

Today I done the background of the garage and the mechanics who are in the pit lane , the mechanics were created by a movie clip symbol, drawing in the movie-clip symbol when they need to blink.

While the garages are created as a graphic symbol simply to create this.

Day 20: 12/11/11

I done today the body movement at the end of the animation were Sebastian does his signature winning pose (picture below explains clearer what I'm explaining).

Done this a the same as when Sebastian saying hello to the audience (Day 12 4/11/11) inside a movie-clip symbol. Then afterwards placing it into the main timeline to create this.

I added a new camera tracking into Sebastian by using two different keyframes then connecting with a motion tween in each layer that was needed with.

This is the animation so far.

Day 21: 13/11/11

I've re-edited the audio for the animation to add another character speaking. Also, I changed the background music too in GarageBand, re-ring it into Flash on the main timeline.

Day 22: 14/11/11

Today I've completed the animation altogether such as the outro adding a certain product into the animation as-well.

After I done this I've exported the animation by file - export - export movie. I checked all exporting set up such as size of the animation, compressor which is an animation compression, and frame rate (25fps- frames per second) so the animation matches with the audio. Then press export button as a QuickTime file.

After it was exported, I checked the QuickTime was fine, nothing gone wrong what I watched. When everything was fine I've uploaded the QuickTime file onto YouTube and Vimeo to show everyone around the world, anyone who is interested in my work. Ready to be hand in for the competition.

Day 23: 15/11/11

Today I have entered the animation on the
Canimation web-site signed up for the competition. I've also Tweeted and Face-booked as many people as possible to watch the animation and like it on Facebook so I have a change of winning the open competition in the drawn category.

Therefore, I have done the best what I can promote the animation through out the week.

The Result

Bad news, didn't won the open drawn category, let alone in the top 10. So Game Over for now. However got some feedback of liking the animation I created.

The Winning animation in my group was called 'SkyHound' in the open drawn category. I liked the animation. But, its a big but, I felt the animation was more CGI (After Effects maybe even a 3D program) than hand drawn in my opinion. I felt there is other animations had a more drawn quality then this animation what I have seen. This is more of the Judges have picked in their opinion so well done for winning. If you think I am a sore loser I am not, just saying. Anyway, end of Project/Challenge.

But, for now see you in 2012. Bye.

Third blog for Red Bull Canimation Challenge

Hi again, the continue of the animating side of the animation so far. So here is the continuation of the blog from last time out.

Day 12: 4/11/11

Today I began to start on the animation proper. I started with the Looney Tunes titles by creating a shape tween to create this. Also, I used throughout the aniamtion motion tweens. For example "once a upon a time" text went off in the left of the screen by creating a motion tween to do this by selecting which frame I want in the time line.

Also, I done today the body movement when Sebastian says hello to the audience. Such as waving/ being happy to the audience done this inside a movie-clip symbol. Then afterwards placing it into the main timeline to create this.

Day 13: 5/11/11

Today I done the first of the two race scene, this was done by using motion tweens for the background constantly (also created the grandstands, fence to create a F1 race weekend scene). Also, with the race cars overtaking. I've also done was to depurating the race cars, for example changing the race car lively as-well, so you were Sebastian is in the animation.

Day 14: 6/11/11

Today I started basically (head with a skeleton body) were Mark meets Sebastian scene. Done this as the same technique as we first seen Sebastian for the first time (Day 12: 6/11/11) waving/ being happy to each other. Then afterwards placing it into the main timeline to create this.

Also, I done today, Mark crash helmets and face expressions too.

This is the animation so far.

Day 15: 7/11/11

Today in Adobe Flash, I created a movie clip symbol of where I am going to add tyres moving for the main Formula 1 car. However, I had problems were the tyres I was going to use didn't rotate right when testing this in Flash.

So therefore, I have replace with toy wheels instead, which worked well aesthetically and rotated much better then the previous tyres.

Also, I did today a Red Bull can into the animation, same techniques I did with the can-race car and the Formula 1 car (Day 9), so you will see a Red Bull product in the animation, which was a requirement.

Day 16: 8/11/11

Today, I did a Formula 1 car on the top of the world, where it would be a billboard. As the Narrator saying "Red Bull are winning around the world" you will see it in the background of my animation. I did this by bringing a png file of the Planet Earth into Flash.

Then in a new movie-clip symbol place the planet earth on a layer, then rotate using a motion tween. Afterwards, put onto another layer a movie clip of a Formula 1 car with its wheels rotating to create this scene.

This is the animation so far.

End of post for now, new post soon. Bye.

Red Bull Canimation Challenge post number two

Hi again, the continue of pre-production/animating side of the animation so far. So here is the continuation of the blog from last time out.

Day 6: 29/10/11

Looking to develop the idea about Sebastian Vettel from the lower formulas to winning the Formula 1 Drivers Championship and Red Bull Racing winning the Constructors championship as my story.

I'm also, going to do is to create a lower Formula car, such as a Formula Renault car for example, from a Red Bull can which I am to create, possibly out of Photoshop then bringing into Flash.

So therefore, I am starting to develop my storyboards, by starting with rough storyboards. So to get my story down onto paper.

Day 7: 30/10/11

Finished off rough storyboards. Now starting on a proper storyboards, I wanted to achieve with the animation.

Day 8: 31/10/11

I finished of the proper storyboards, not a lot of changes from the storyboards. Now I am starting on what Red Bull race can car and Drivers will look like. I did this sketch on Adobe Ideas on the iPhone.

Meanwhile I did some crash helmets designs so can be templates in Adobe Flash, on what the drivers will look like. I didn't like these designs below, wasn't satisfied with them. So therefore, still need to develop them.

So I've developed it to better template to crash helmets designs, this works better. Its suits my own unique style, its also suites the character as-well. The Sebastian Vettel character below, also Mark Webber and the mechanics too.

Day 9: 1/11/11

Throughout today, I've been developing the race-can car. I done this in Photoshop. First attempt, the can needed to be longer, so it can make the car look like more of a Formula 1 car.

So I went back and stretch the main can in Photoshop. Then added a rear wing and added mini red Bull cans in a different angles to make a front wing. Similar to a Lotus 49 from 1969. Then when completing. I changed the can to black and white by Image - Adjustment - Threshold, Then duplicated a few lawyers a few times, then added a few simple colours (red, blue and yellow) to create race-can car. Then saved it as a png file.

Then I created some tyres by taking a photo of a toy wheel then gone into Photoshop then Image - Adjustment - Threshold, then duplicate the layers a few times, changing opacity to create the tyre. Then save as a png file as-well.

Then in adobe Flash to create a movie clip symbol (because I am going to add the tyres moving by using a motion tween and rotating the wheels inside the movie-clip symbol if-self, add the race driver as-well later) to created race-can car.

Day 10: 2/11/11

Today did the same thing as yesterday with race-can car, this time with a Red Bull Formula 1 car in Photoshop. Did the same set up in Photoshop, then save as a png file. Then export it into Flash with race-can car as-well. As the video below shows.

Day 11: 3/11/11

Today I went to GarageBand to do my score for the aniamtion. The narriator/charcaters talking was myself I wrote as a script. I found some free/next to nothing sound effects and background music and place them into GarageBand. Then place them in the right order of
timeline in the right order. After I complete the score, I Save the score then exported by share - send song to iTunes.

Then I find the Wav file. Place it into Adobe Flash. I've set it up as 1280 px x 720 px to make it as a HD layout to my animation. This is my set up for my animation throughout. Then place the audio Into my time-time, ready to animate.

End of post for now, new post soon. Bye.

A new design layout

Hi again, a quick mention that I have change the design set-out to the Blogger page, due to space of the YouTube box I have find and the page width needed to be wider. I couldn't do it with the old page set-up. So, therefore I have change the page layout. But, still make the layout simple as possible to the audience (you guys) so to make it less confusing. Basically the background has change to dark grey, the main text in a white box with black text in the centre of the screen.

End post for now, new post soon. Bye.

Red Bull Canimation Challenge post number one

First post for a while starting with a new challenge.

So starting on a new competition, were Red Bull launched Canimation, where they search for talented animators, and asked them to show us what they could do with a Red Bull can and our imagination. The rules are no longer than two minutes, style have to be either hand-drawn, CGI or stop motion. As the videos below shows.

Canimation Showcase from Red Bull Canimation on Vimeo.

Canimation Montage from Red Bull Canimation on Vimeo.

And the tricky bit I've got only got 22 days (started on 25th October) to do an animation. So the deadline is 16th November.

Day 1: 25/10/11

Today I've started to look at pervious work I created in the past, for a curtain style I like to use for this project.

Day 3: 26/10/11

Been look at some pervious Red Bull adverts, to find out this there anything influence me for the animation.

Day 4: 27/10/11

Today I've looked VW bluemotion advert, enjoy the stop motion style of the piece, when drawing it onto paper, using the same colours (mainly blue colours). Also, I liked it when the paper goes left to right to create a kind of Tapestry style. Might use this in some of my ideas I want to develop with.

Also, I looked at Kristofer Ström short animations, which one of th videos was for a mobile phone ad. He uses stop motion and a hand drawn style which I liked. But I don't think this is a good idea to try within the time to create, more than likely go for hand drawn style for the competition.

Day 5: 28/10/11

Might look at Red Bull own Formula 1 team called Red Bull Racing and there leading driver Sebastian Vettel who won the Drivers Championship twice as an influence for the animation I may use for the competition.

End of post for now, new post soon. Bye.

Blogger app on iPhone

Hi again, I writing this not on my computer, but on my IPod touch. As I explain below.

I thought I try the blogger app on my iPod (it costs nothing, its a free app). With a few sketches I've done on Adobe Ideas on my iPod too. Enjoy the sketches of some racing cars.

Anyway, sorry about the delay on writing a new post. Had different jobs I've been doing, so I haven't written anything on Blogger for the past few months. Hope it doesn't take long again. End of blog for now. New post soon. That is all. Bye.

Post 15th and last for FMP Animation

Hi again, final post for this project, and the final animation as-well. So here's the conclusion.

16/5/11

First, I've added in the new audio into my animation without any problems.

Secondly, I've been re-tweaking some parts of the animation that needed to be put in. Such as the hand print, more tears and the intro as few examples I have re-tweak from last time (images below).

17/5/11

Today I've redone a scene with the new audio line for Pete at the end of animation. I added a new camera tracking in-between Donny and Pete by using two different keyframes then connecting with a motion tween in each layer that was needed with.

That also includes redoing the Pete line by re-syncing the line for Pete without any problems with.

18/5/11

Today I have added credits to the end of the animation to show who have done the voices for my animation.

When everything was fine I've uploaded the QuickTime file onto YouTube to show my peers and anyone who is interested in my work. Ready to be hand in.

That is all.
